Updated: US Box-Office Report: Skyfall Delivers $90 million North America Weekend Haul

Update: We are now officially hearing that SKYFALL has taken a huge $518.6 million worldwide including the weekend take from North America. It is on its way to become the most successful Bond movie ever.

Mr. Bond. We have been expecting you. After delivering £50 million in the UK in just ten days, expectation for the US and Canada release of SKYFALL over the weekend was extremely high, and we were all anticipating big numbers, and boy did Daniel Craig and co. come up with them. Breaking down the full weekend performance of the film; it made $2.2 million in IMAX screenings on Thursday, $30.8 million on Friday, $33.9 million on Saturday, and an estimated $22.2 million on Sunday. It is easily the number one movie at North American cinemas this weekend, a triumph for all involved including EON Productions, Sony and MGM who backed the film. The film will definitely make $400 worldwide by the end of play today, and should exceed out the previous Bond movie’s performance QUANTUM OF SOLACE before the month is out (that movie grossed $586 million on its total theatrical run internationally back in 2008).

Still doing well at the number two spot, dropping from last week’s number one, is Disney’s gaming-themed WRECK-IT-RALPH, which made another $33 million as an alternative to Bond, over the three days. The Denzel Washington starring/ Robert Zemeckis directed FLIGHT also performed quite well in its second weekend out there, adding another $15.1 to its total take.

Ben Affleck’s superb ARGO continues to do well. The true story has now taken over $85 million domestically, and is also expected to do well in the UK this weekend. At five is the less well received critically, but terribly successful TAKEN 2, which has now managed to accumulate a massive $131 million in the US and Canada since it was release; a huge release for FOX.
