Homeland Season 2 Blog: Episode 2.6 A Gettsyburg Address *SPOILERS*

Director: Guy Ferland

Writer: Chip Johannessen

Breakdown: Now under CIA control Brody confirms to Carrie and Peter ‘the taylor’ is dead. Using the intelligence the CIA arrive in Gettysburg and commence searching his shop. Meeting Roya Hammad, after her rendezvous with an unidentified individual, Brody learns her people may know of the CIA’s presence in Gettysburg.

Elsewhere Mike gains some new evidence and begins to believe Brody did indeed kill Tom Walker, Lauder’s persistence/paranoia paying off. Informing Jess, she in turn tells Mike about Brody’s working with the CIA. Dana visits the hospital and learns the lady hit by Finn and her has passed. Finn, uninterested, shouts Dana down when she tells him.

In Gettysburg the CIA find nothing but come under attack from three gunman who promptly remove a metal chest from a false wall, not before one removes his mask and shows himself as the unidentified man leaving Pete as the lone survivor of the bloodshed. Episode ends with Carrie marching into Brody’s office, accusing him of plotting the hit, denying Brody reaches for Carries hand. Fade to black.

Opinion On Episode: Following last week’s disappointing show it’s disheartening to see the story play out so predictably; the hit in Gettysburg is a slight surprise but Hammad seems onto Brody’s CIA link. Morgan Saylor (Dana) gives the episode some heart – her meeting with the (soon to be) deceased’s Mother is heartbreaking – but this is a rare moment of emotion in a very workmanlike episode.

What Will Happen Next? It seems highly likely Brody will begin to ‘play’ the CIA as Roya learns of his connection. Dana and Finn are on thin (no pun intended) ice, whilst the most intriguing aspect is Mike’s belief in Brody’s killing of Walker. One can’t help but see Mike being painted as the bad guy, shoved away by Brody and an eventual realisation that he was correct all along.

Rating: 3/5 An improvement on last week, but the predictable nature of the episode is a concern going forward. Hopefully the unidentified individual will add an interesting element.

Sam is a bloody lovely lad born and raised in Bristol (he’s still there and can’t escape). Favourite films include THE LOST BOYS, DRIVE, FIGHT CLUB and COMMANDO, well pretty much any 1980s Arnie film you can throw his way…even RED SONJA. Sam once cancelled a Total Film subscription after they slagged off Teen Wolf. He resubscribed 2 days later.
