It’s only been a couple of weeks since our first look at the trailer for Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut QUARTET and now he’s added a very suitable poster. The film that brings together the classic talent of Maggie Smith, Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Pauline Collins, Billy Connolly and newcomer Sheridan Smith, is set at a home for retired opera singers. Each year they host a concert to celebrate Verdi’s birthday but this year, it’s disrupted by the arrival of Jean – played by Maggie Smith – who’s an eternal diva and the former wife of one of the residents…
Ronald Harwood wrote the play and also the screenplay, he’s previously written THE PIANIST, LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA and THE DIVING BELL AND THE BUTTERFLY so it’s got a very strong base. We’re sure this will be marketed to a certain audience but with Hoffman on-board behind the camera, there could be something for every generation. Take a look at the poster:
QUARTET is out in the UK and USA on 4th January.
