Peter Jackson’s LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy surprisingly has some haters amongst some of the staff here at THN. But before I’m pelted with stones, I’m certainly not one of them…although if you’re a TWILIGHT fan aim ’em right here because it is utter rubbish. Despite knowing bugger all about the characters prior to seeing Ralph Bakshi’s classic animated effort from 1978, or having the patience (or interest) to read J.R.R. Tolkien’s doorstop novels, I still lapped up the epic adventures of Gandalf, Frodo and the rest of the creatures of Middle-Earth in the Oscar-winning trio from Peter Jackson, a director whom I’d grown to love after seeing BRAINDEAD, HEAVENLY CREATURES and THE FRIGHTENERS.
Most of the characters and cast are back for prequel trilogy THE HOBBIT, which we’ll finally see beginning with AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY from mid-December. Below we have another five(!) television spots with some previously unseen footage. Which will be your precious?!
The first film will hit cinemas on 16th December followed by THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG and THE HOBBIT: THERE AND BACK AGAIN slated for 13th December 2013 and 18th July 2014 respectively.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
