There can’t be many horror faves left to remake that dominated my demented gore-filled childhood and teenage years. We’ve had the surprisingly brilliant (I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE, THE HILLS HAVE EYES), the absolute garbage (FRIDAY THE 13TH, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET) and the not-as-bad-as-we-expected (HALLOWEEN, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE).
However, we’re not finished as there is more on the way. We’ve got a MANIAC remake (today’s recent trailer) and an impressive looking EVIL DEAD and CARRIE, due next year. We’re also not forgetting David Gordon Green’s SUSPIRIA and a Nicolas Winding-Refn produced reboot of the cult slasher MANIAC COP, both set to roll before cameras soon.
Now we can bring you the brand new trailer for Steven C. Miller’s remake of the 1984 SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT, with a bearded St. Nick taking flame-throwers, hatchets and cattle-prods to the folk of a small midwestern town.
SILENT NIGHT (which it has now been simply titled) will get a limited theatrical run on 30th November in the US, with a quick DVD/Blu-ray release less than a week later. A UK release is still to be confirmed, but expect it to go straight to DVD. The film stars Jaime King, Malcolm McDowell, Brendan Fehr, Lisa Marie, Ellen Wong and Donal Logue.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
