Some of us lucky people have already seen and were highly impressed with director Franck Khalfoun’s remake of 80s cult video nasty MANIAC, after it screened at this year’s London FrightFest (you can read our thoughts here). The film is headlined by Elijah Wood as disturbed Frank (previously played by Joe Spinell in William Lustig’s excellent 1980 original, with a notorious scene recently featured in our Ten Greatest Gory Deaths), whose abuse as a child by his domineering mother left him emotionally scarred – and seriously ‘fucked-up’. As a grown man his hunts the sleazy streets of New York looking to collect the scalps of beautiful young women to ‘please’ his dead mother, still haunting his memory.
Below we have the latest trailer for MANIAC which is co-written and produced by THE HILLS HAVE EYES and PIRANHA 3D’s Alexandre Aja. The film co-stars America Olivio, Liane Balaban, Morgane Slemp, rising newcomer Nora Arnezeder and slashes its way in cinemas early next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
