Unless you’ve been living under a rock on Tatooine, kidnapping lost droids for a living, you can’t have failed to notice that Walt Disney Pictures puchased Lucasfilm last week for 4 gazillion big ones, or thereabouts. And with George Lucas the Hutt out of the way, Disney can hopefully step from the shadow of his toxic writing and directing and get on with making some decent STARS WARS films. Ohhh yeah – feel the mother flippin’ force, baby.
Word on the street (Internet) is currently that X-MEN: FIRST CLASS director Matthew Vaughn may be on board to helm the new movie – and if it goes well, who knows, he could bag himself the whole damn new trilogy. But let’s not get too excited. It’s all just hearsay right now. However, THN likes these apples, and it would make sense with Vaughn stepping away from the X-MEN sequel, which came as a great shock considering how brilliantly he handled FIRST CLASS, easily the finest X-film to date. Perhaps this deal has been in the works for a while?
Whilst it is just rumour at the moment, Vaughn would be an ace choice. Not only has he proved himself in genre, action, and adventure (consider the likes of KICK-ASS and STARDUST too), he’s also a proven screenwriter, co-writing FIRST CLASS and KICK-ASS.If he takes regualr writing partner Jane Goldman with him, all the better.
The force is indeed string with this one.
