The news that Jude Law has reportedly joined the cast of Werner Herzog’s much-delayed Gertrude Bell biopic QUEEN OF THE DESERT received decidedly less fanfare than the earlier announcement that Robert Pattinson would be portraying T.E. Lawrence in the film — the very same Lawrence of Arabia so memorably played by Peter O’Toole in the 1962 classic.
While it looks like a deal will be officially made in the near future, there is no word on which role Law will be slated to play in the project. All that is known is that he will co-star with Pattinson and Naomi Watts who is signed on for the lead role of Gertrude Bell.
Bell, a former British Intelligence officer during the First World War, worked in the Middle East and risked her life in helping bring down the Ottoman Empire, which subsequently led to the founding of Iraq.
Production is reportedly scheduled to start in Morocco in March 2013.
