A Magnificent Trio Join ‘A Magnificent Death’

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Com, actor Thomas Jane showed fans his excellent short film DIRTY LAUNDRY, which saw his return as THE PUNISHER character Frank Castle. What was perhaps lost amongst the excitement of that well-recieved short (which us here at THN are hoping Jane is allowed another crack at Marvel’s anti-hero) was another western-thriller concept entitled A MAGNIFICENT DEATH FROM A SHATTERED HAND.

Well it appears Jane has been given the go ahead to move forward with a full-length feature based on that idea, although with a now shortened title of A MAGNIFICENT DEATH. Not only will he make his second directorial effort (after cult indie thriller DARK COUNTRY), but Jane will also star.

Joining Jane so far are a couple of acting greats in three time Oscar-nominee Nick Nolte and Oscar-winner Jeremy Irons. No word yet on the roles they are set to play but the plot is said to revolve around ‘one man’s journey for redemption in the ruthless West, where an ex-soldier is relentlessly tracked down for the murder and rape of a well-to-do woman. He must face mercenaries, tribal warriors, and women of sin to clear his name and uncover the true story behind the manhunt’.

Jane is a firm favourite amongst many of us here at THN and recently featured on our list of the ‘Ten Most Under-Appreciated Actors In Hollywood’, after superb performances in Frank Darabont’s THE MIST, true-crime biopic STANDER and of course THE PUNISHER, to name only a few. This is one project this THN writer will certainly be keeping an eye on. More details as they come.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
