Guillermo Del Toro is set to release PACIFIC RIM next summer, his latest film since HELLBOY 2: THE GOLDEN ARMY. While many of us still want him to direct the trilogy closer for HELLBOY (which he’s said he was still determined to make) he might also be tackling another comic book film sometime in the future…
It’s called HEAVEN SENT and will feature several of DC Comics’ lesser known supernatural characters with Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, Constantine Hellblazer, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, Sargon and Etrigan the Demon having been listed as the characters featured. But as with pretty much all of Del Toro’s films, it won’t be an easy route and it might take a while for everything to come together, as there might be issues regarding who holds the rights to the various characters. I can’t help but being stoked about this; it sounds like it could be right up his ally. His creatures in the HELLBOY films, BLADE II and the amazing PAN’S LABYRINTH were brilliant, and I’m sure that PACIFIC RIM will be visually striking. I hope he’ll take time to make HELLBOY 3 first though.
PACIFIC RIM is directed by Guillermo Del Toro. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi. It will hit UK cinemas on 12th July 2013.
