In what seems like stepping through some kind of timewarp, we’re now back to where we were at the start of this year in regards to promoting G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, a sequel that I was actually very much looking forward to. Talk of a 3D conversion was given as the official reason for the hold-up, but the more likely rumour that has been circulating, suggests that the studio wanted more Channing Tatum. After his successful year with 21 JUMP STREET, THE VOW, and MAGIC MIKE, who can blame them. These two international trailers are still lacking a lot of Tatum, but it’s doubtful he will have a major role.
The film still looks like a lot of fun action mayhem. It picks up from the end of the last film, where master of disguise Zartan had taken over the role of the president. However, now we follow a completely new team, after all G.I. Joes are eradicated. There looks to be some decent stunts and inventive moments of barmy madness, including a bike which seems to disassemble into a number of missiles.
G.I. JOE: RETALIATION is set for release 29th March 2013. It stars Dwayne Johnson, Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Adrianne Palicki, RZA, Jonathan Pryce, Lee Byung Hun, and Ray Stevenson.
