Diesel’s ‘Riddick’ Return Gets R’ed

Fans of Vin Diesel’s mysterious serial-killing anti-hero, Richard B. Riddick, will be overjoyed to hear his savage nature will be back in three-quel RIDDICK. After the tepid and bloated PG-13 shenanigans of THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK reduced his awesomely brutal characteristics seen in cult franchise opener PITCH BLACK, into that of a cuddly hero from David Twohy’s science-fiction thriller, we’ve news RIDDICK will be back to basics – and rated R! The MPAA have confirmed the R rating is for “strong violence, language and some sexual content/nudity.”

Writer/director Twohy is also back for the third time in which we’ll see Riddick dumped on a seemingly lifeless planet that he soon finds is home to flesh-eating extraterrestrial predators. In order for a chance to escape the sun-scorched planet, Riddick, still with a huge price on his head, must activate an emergency beacon and alert those mercenaries to his whereabouts, who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

RIDDICK is still awaiting a release date both in the US and here in the UK, but is expected in cinemas early next year. The film will co-star Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
