Jonathan Demme has mainly been doing documentaries for the last several years. Since 2004’s THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, the only fiction film he’s made is the critically acclaimed indie film, RACHEL GETTING MARRIED, but now he’s signed on to direct another indie film in a similar vein to that one. The synopsis for the film, OLD FIRES, is as follows:
The story centers on a world-renowned architect who, after waking up from a coma in need to physical and mental rehabilitation, tries to repair his damaged relationship with his children and wife.
This sounds like a good film for the SILENCE OF THE LAMBS and PHILADELPHIA director who seems content on doing smaller projects. The film is described as a Dramedy, so expect a few laughs along the way, but the subject seems to lean on the heavy side. Hopefully Demme can get the tone right and make this an intriguing watch. The production is set to start next summer.

Esben Evans is the Danish contingent on this site. He enjoys films, swearing a lot, and a nice pair of slacks.
