EMPIRES OF THE DEEP is a huge budgeted, $130 million, fantasy adventure with a troubled production past. It’s a Chinese-American co-production which once had the likes of Pitof (director of CATWOMAN), Monica Belluci, and Irvin Kershner attached. They all eventually left, leaving Olga Kurylenko in the starring role, directed by Michael French, a man mostly known for TV productions.Jon Jiang, a Chinese business tycoon, partially funded this production, where the budget soon ballooned. We now have the first trailer, and initial reaction has not been kind. It does look like a pretty poor undewater version f AVATAR. However, I kind of like the look of the film. Sure the effects aren’t top class, but its amateurish quality also makes it seem fresh. Plus, there are big giant sea monsters and that’s OK with me. The thin that annoyed me the most was the ridiculous looking fonts.
EMPIRES OF THE DEEP should be released soon. It stars Olga Kurylenko, Maxx Maulion, Pierre Bourdaud, and Jean Michael-Casanova.
