Once upon a time a crab once told me that “Life sure is better, down where it’s wetter”, but Disney seem to be taking that a step further with a new adaptation of Jules Verne’s classic adventure story, 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA. Disney currently have David Fincher lined up to direct, but he is on a three month hold, so if the company fails to move he walk away rather than languishing in development hell. If the film does get the greenlight then Fincher would like none other than his three time collaborator Brad Pitt to take on one of the lead roles.
Pitt would take the role of Ned Land, a harpoon master aboard the massive submarine known a The Nautilus. Meanwhile an older A List star will be chosen for the role of Captain Nemo, and right now I’m going to place my bets on Liam Neeson. He’s had some experience on big water based vessels in the likes of K-19: THE WIDOWMAKER (2002) and this year’s BATTLESHIP.
Stay tuned for more updates on this project.
