Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis, the same team that brought you such films as FORREST GUMP and THE POLAR EXPRESS, are reuniting to bring you a big screen adaptation of sci-fi action figure MAJOR MATT MASON.
It appears that the film is finally moving forward after being in the works for some time. Hanks is set to produce and star as the title character Mason, and Zemeckis looks to be on board as director. Hanks told The Wrap that he “started tinkering with the story after Larry Crowne, and ended up co-writing the script with Graham Yost.” Universal is in charge of the domestic rights, and now the project is being shopped to buyers in anticipation of the American Film Market.
For those who are unaware, Major Matt Mason was a fictional astronaut trapped on a moon base with a group of people. It is a story of survival; no bad guys or aliens. It’ll be interesting to see this duo of Hanks and Zemeckis go from simple country FORREST GUMP to a science fiction lunar adventure. Audiences will be especially interested due to the recent space jump by Felix Baumgartner, proving that space stories like this may not just be one small jump away from reality.
