Ivory tinkling, talent show botherer Gary Barlow has signed on to be the singing voice of Postman Pat in his feature film debut.
In September last year, we reported that the most famous postman in Christendom would make the leap, or rather pleasant drive, to the silver screen in POSTMAN PAT: YOU KNOW YOU’RE THE ONE. It’s a surprising title, and will presumably be abbreviated to PP3D, as Greendale and all its residents will be animated in three glorious dimensions.
The name refers to the talent contest in which Pat participates, where our hero sings it louder, sings it clearer. For this, Take That’s lead man will provide the crooning, while Stephen Mangan (EPISODES, GREEN WING) will be delivering his voice for Pat the rest of the time. The X Factor judge will record several songs with a posty theme for the soundtrack, such as ‘Wait a Minute, Mister Postman’ and ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours.’
Mangan is not the only top talent involved, as the cast includes Rupert Grint (THUNDERPANTS, HARRY POTTER), Jim Broadbent (CLOUD ATLAS, HARRY POTTER) and David Tennant (DOCTOR WHO, HARRY POTTER).
Rumours that Will.I.Am will provide the auto-tuned vocals for grocery shop owner Mrs Goggins are, as yet, unconfirmed.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The film finds Pat, everyone’s favourite postman, coming face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition that threatens to tear him away from his hometown of Greendale and the friends he loves. What happens when kindness meets selfishness? When local fame meets global notoriety? A nice cup of tea is kicked aside by a frappacappucino? Pat is set to find out as he falls for the age old temptation of the grass being greener…
POSTMAN PAT: YOU KNOW YOU’RE THE ONE is directed by Mike Disa (HOODWINKED TOO) and written by Kim Fuller (SPICE WORLD) and long time Postman Pat producer Annika Bluhm.
It will be shown in letterbox format from the 24th of May 2013.
