‘Need For Speed’ Gets A ‘Breaking Bad’ Lead

AMC’s superb US drama series BREAKING BAD could just possibly be the greatest television show in history (although I tend to lean more toward HBO’s epic western series DEADWOOD), however, it’s surely about time co-star Aaron Paul was given a blockbuster lead. Well, fans of either/all BREAKING BAD, Aaron Paul and video-game NEED FOR SPEED should be excited, as we can now confirm Paul will headline the forthcoming fast-paced action-thriller set to be directed by Scott Waugh.

Paul has just seen his alcohol-themed indie drama SMASHED released in US cinemas to critical acclaim, in which he co-stars with Mary Elizabeth Winstead. NEED FOR SPEED will mark his first significant lead role in what is expected to feature a plot involving street racing. Dreamworks are the studio behind this project and will obviously try to capitalise of the success of THE FAST & THE FURIOUS franchise. Former stuntman-turned-filmmaker Waugh recently made his directorial debut with the critically-mauled, uninspiring actioner ACT OF VALOR.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
