BATTLE FOR BONNEVILLE is the true story about half-brother rivals, Art and Walt Arfons, who both attempted to break the land speed record. The film will follow their time as racing competitors before focusing on their cooperation in setting three land speed records in their jet powered car.
Production company New Regency are allegedly in negotiations to pick up the project which has Ryan Reynolds attached as one of the brothers, and Jon Favreau in line to direct. The script is written by Dan Gilroy who is best known for writing this summer’s THE BOURNE LEGACY. Bonneville comes from Bonnevile Speedway, which is where the Arfons brothers set their records with their vehicle, The Green monster.
Ryan Reynolds is a very busy man with seven films currently announced, in post-production, or pre-production. I’m not too familiar with the history of these two brothers, but I’ve never been that impressed with the breaking of speed records. Unless it can be harnessed for commercial travel or extended periods of time, what’s the point. I know, I’m a party-pooper.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.

From what I have read about this so-called “Battle For Bonneville” project writer Gilroy needs to do some serious homework on his subjects, both of whom were personal friends and professional colleagues of mine. The Arfons brothers NEVER put aside their differences. Gilroy is hallucinating to think otherwise and naive to think the families and racing community would stand for such BS in a film.
