Now I quite enjoyed THE HUNGER GAMES’ unique filmgoing experience, with a controversial premise that has perhaps been pushed to more graphic lengths in similar-themed efforts. Unfortunately, it’s this problem that held the film back from just being ‘good’ to ‘damn right great’, with Lionsgate Films’ stubbornness to reach as wide an audience as possible by well and truly diluting the violent dramatic-driven exploits, giving us something more child friendly. Still, star Jennifer Lawrence gave an emotionally-charged performance and enough of us went to see it to make sure a sequel (and forthcoming split-threequel, MOCKINGJAY PART 1 and 2) will complete her journey and Suzanne Collins’ story.
Gary Ross has been replaced by Francis Lawrence, who is currently shooting the sequel, CATCHING FIRE. Here we’ve a bunch of set photos from the follow-up, slated for 22nd November 2013.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
