CBS Films has reportedly offered Australian actor Chris Hemsworth the lead role of terrorist hunter Mitch Rapp in the upcoming thriller, AMERICAN ASSASSIN.
Based on the 11th novel in author Vince Flynn’s popular series, the story chronicles the fictional anti-terrorist agent as he goes from revered scholar and athlete to special agent for the CIA after a devastating personal tragedy.
With Jeffrey Nachmanoff (no stranger to terrorist-themed premises as a director on TVs HOMELAND) slated to helm the project, there are also rumours circling that Bruce Willis is eyeing a role in the film as a mentor to Rapp’s character.
Hemsworth’s star has risen in the past couple of years with lucrative hits like THOR, THE AVENGERS and SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN. However, without the big-money brand names of Marvel Comics superheroes and classic fairy tales, Hollywood honchos will undoubtedly be watching to see if Hemsworth remains a box office draw with his own starring vehicle — AMERICAN ASSASSIN will be the true test of Hemsworth’s box office clout.
The film is set for a 2013 release and more news, as we have it.
