At long last, here’s the trailer for Disney’s reboot of matinee old school favourite, THE LONE RANGER. Hi ho, Silver indeed. The movie – from director and producer duo Gore Verbinksi and Jerry Bruckheimer –is a clear effort by Disney to establish another adventure franchise in the vein of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN (look, there’s Johnny Depp in a vaguely amusing hat), and from the looks of this slick trailer, they could be onto a surefire winner.
The movie will apparently recount THE LONE RANGER’s backstory, in which the character (proper name John Reid) turns from lawman to rogue crusader of justice, which hopefully entail a little more than simply popping on a novelty mask. The character was a popular staple of America radio and television during the 1940s and ’50s, and it will be interesting to see just how the story has been re-imagined for modern day.

THE LONE RANGER stars Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Wilkinson, and Ruth Wilson. It arrives in cinemas summer 2013.
