The marketing juggernaut for THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY continues. Earlier this week we had a poster filled with dwarves, but now it’s time to name and shame the entire bunch with this new banner. This banner is nearly as long as the extended editions of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, to which THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is a prequel. From left to right we have Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Bilbo (Martin Freeman), Thorin (Richard Armitage), Gloin (Peter Hambleton), Oin (John Callen), Balin (Ken Stott), Dwalin (Graham McTavish), Bofur (James Nesbitt), Bifur (William Kircher), Kili (Aidan Turner), Fili (Dean O’Gorman), Dori (Mark Hadlow), Nori (Jed Brophy), Ori Adam Brown), and Bombur (Stephen Hunter).
Our merry band of dwarves, plus a hobbit, travel to reclaim the dwarves land from a the dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch). The poster looks great, but I find the amount of prosthesis used distracting, especially since some of the dwarves seem to have none whatsoever. I don’t remember the dwarves looking as comical in THE LORD OF THE RINGS, but maybe that’s just me.
THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is released 14th December 2012. It stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Andy Serkis, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Richard Armitage, Orlando Bloom, Christopher Lee, Aiden Turner, Ian Holm, Billy Connolly, and Lee Pace.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
