There was never any doubt about seeing another Spider-Man hitting the big-screen with Andrew Garfield. After all, a sequel to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN was given the green light well before Sony’s reboot was released earlier this year. There was, however, a spanner in the works, with director Marc Webb’s commitments to another project and studio. Would they allow him to return to continue the story of Peter Parker’s web-swinging alter-ego after his ‘more grounded real-world superhero offering’ (as real-world as you could get with a giant bloody lizard that is)?
We now have the answer, as both Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb are now confirmed for a return to the sequel. Many thought Webb’s rebooted film had perhaps come a little too soon after Sam Raimi’s record-breaking trilogy, but enough of us went to see Spidey’s return to warrant another adventure (as well as third and concluding effort, which Sony later announced after the film’s release). Whether Webb will able to finish his own trilogy remains to be seen, but I suspect he’ll also return to complete his vision for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3. Emma Stone is also currently in talks to reprise her role of sweetheart Gwen Stacey.
Doug Belgrad, President of Columbia Pictures commented:
We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker. We can’t wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
