A change appears to be on the horizon for writer/director Brian Helgeland with his latest project 42, which depicts the real-life efforts to end colour segregation in baseball with the story of icon Jackie Robinson. Helgeland is known for his hard-hitting scripts on L.A. CONFIDENTIAL, MYSTIC RIVER and his excellent dark comic-crime flick PAYBACK, with which he made his feature length directing debut in 1999.
Robinson was the first black player to take part in the major league and became a legend for his skill on the field as well as breaking a controversial mould. 42 will chart the efforts of coach Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) and his struggle to give the young talent his chance. Newcomer Chadwick Boseman takes on the role of Robinson and we’re lucky enough to bring you the first trailer and teaser poster for the biopic below.
42 is expected early next year and will co-star Alan Tudyk, Christopher Meloni, Lucas Black, John C. McGinley, Ryan Merriman and Brett Cullen.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
