See how I cleverly avoided mentioning that Michael Bay was the director in the title…WAIT! COME BACK… Darn it! Well anyway, PAIN AND GAIN is a dark comedy based on a true story which sees two bodybuilders (Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson) get involved in an extortion ring. Although it’s a Michael Bay film, the budget is a cool $25 million, which wont exactly buy him his usual plethora of explosions and CGI effects. It’s also avoiding a summer release by hitting theatres 26th April 2013.
I can’t wait to see Wahlberg and Johnson together as they were both hilarious in THE OTHER GUYS, but didn’t get a lot of screentime together. I’ll be willing to give Bay a chance, and hopefully this will be a success so as to show him that size doesn’t matter. But with IRON MAN 3 released one week later, it better hope it can make some cash quickly.
