Will 2013 Be Melissa Leo’s Busiest Year Yet?

You may have thought that after winning an Oscar (for Best Actress as Alice Ward in THE FIGHTER) that Melissa Leo might have packed it all in and retired on a high. Or that she’s now super picky and will only commit to high-class, artsy roles in an attempt to win a partner for her statuette. Both of these assumptions are wrong – and Leo’s schedule for 2013 proves it!

She’s so far confirmed for roles in OBLIVION (opposite Tom Cruise), THE ANGRIEST MAN IN BROOKLYN, THE BUTLER (both with timeless funny guy Robin Williams), A SINGLE SHOT (with William H. Macy and Sam Rockwell) and THE NECESSARY DEATH OF CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN (with LAWLESS star Shia LaBeouf). So, a busy year, right? Yes – and she’s apparently added another role! Reports have surfaced that Leo is set to feature opposite Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman in PRISONERS, directed by Denis Villeneuve (POLYTECHNIQUE, INCENDIES).

Jackman would star as a small town carpenter-turned-vigilante, after his daughter and her friend are kidnapped. As in many films along these lines, the police have trouble finding them, so Jackman loses it a little and takes his prime suspect hostage. Although Melissa’s role isn’t confirmed, it is thought she would feature as a detective who Jackman comes into contact with along his trail. Both are incredible performers, so we can only expect good things from PRISONERS.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
