The Villain Of ‘Avengers 2’ And ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Confirmed As…

This week we’ve seen the home entertainment release of Joss Whedon’s ace superhero blockbuster THE AVENGERS, as well as the confirmation that James Gunn will helm Marvel’s otherworldly team-up GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Now we have news that the villain of both in-development projects will be the strange-looking purple headed warrior (oo-er!) featured at the end of Whedon’s record-breaking action-adventure – Thanos!

The creator of the character, Jim Starlin, has confirmed at Montreal Comic-Con that Thanos will unleash his powers on the worlds of both the films, but how much he’ll appear in either is still a mystery. After his notable introduction in finale of THE AVENGERS, it’s safe to say the big-bad will feature strongly in that sequel.

Phase II of Marvel’s next batch of anticipated movies will begin next year with the release of IRON MAN 3 on 26th April 2013, and soon followed up with the currently-shooting THOR: THE DARK WORLD, expected 8th November 2013, then CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, slated 4th April 2014.  You can also expect Edgar Wright to squeeze in his take on ANT-MAN before fellow newcomers GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (1st August 2014) are introduced and THE AVENGERS suit-up for duty once again.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
