Check Out Federico D’Alessandro’s ‘Halloween’ Reboot Pitch!

We’re finding a lot of filmmaker’s defunct and/or prospective project pitches making their way online, with the likes of Joe Carahan’s DAREDEVIL sizzle-reel setting the trend. Now we’re able to bring you THE AVENGERS’ storyboard artist Federico D’Alessandro’s vivid take on what he hoped would have seen him make his directorial debut for Platinum Dunes’ HALLOWEEN reboot.

I myself think John Carpenter’s suspense-filled masterpiece is still the finest horror film ever made (and the best ever to make use of the widescreen aspect ratio), with a sense of dread dripping from every frame, without the need for blood and gore. D’Alessandro’s same passion for the film (and the franchise in general) saw him put this now-animatic pitch together before the project was eventually shelved earlier this year.

The 8-minute mini-movie, which hints at a more action-themed effort (perhaps in keeping with other Platinum Dunes horror remakes), shows how bogeyman Michael Myers would make his escape from Smith Grove Sanatorium and return home to Haddonfield. It came with this statement from D’Alessendro himself:

‘As a lifelong ‘Halloween’ fan it would be a dream to direct a reboot of the franchise that’s so near and dear to my heart. I created this to show the tone and storytelling that I would bring to the project if I were lucky enough to have that chance.’

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
