Busy searching for lost children and slaughtering the undead as soft-hearted redneck Daryl Dixon in THE WALKING DEAD, Norman Reedus has taken time from promoting the upcoming third series to kindly confirm that a third BOONDOCK SAINTS film is on its merry way.
“I’m in LA meeting with Sean [Patrick Flanery] and Troy [Duffy] tonight. I just landed a couple of hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.”
Although some critics labelled the original film a Tarantino ripoff (ironically), THE BOONDOCK SAINTS has maintained a strong cult following since its release in 1999. Writer and director Troy Duffy had an entire decade since to polish the script for the sequel, ALL SAINTS DAY, but managed to disappoint just about everybody, including me. Even Clifton Collins Jr couldn’t save it.
But with news of a third film in the works, Duffy has a chance to redeem himself and make a sequel that’s not just the first film with bigger guns. Here’s to the hopeful, actual return of the McManus brothers, cleaning up Boston several hundred bullets at a time.
They’re great craic.
