Intense New Trailer For ‘Great Expectations’

If there’s one thing the film world probably doesn’t need it’s another adaptation of the much-loved Charles Dickens’ novel GREAT EXPECTATIONS. However, I was glued to the television after last Christmas’ BBC version, which starred the superb (and very creepy) Gillian Anderson. If my calculations are correct, there have so far been 9 film/TV adaptations (that we know of), so the upcoming Mike Newell attempt takes it to a grand total of 10 – and today we can show you the brand new UK trailer!

Starring Jeremy Irvine (WAR HORSE) as Pip (Irvine’s younger brother Toby plays ‘Little Pip’), the story focuses on his weird relationship with Miss Havisham (Helena Bonham Carter) and her adopted daughter Estella (Holliday Grainger). As Pip grows up, he expects to be partnered with Estella but all is not so, as money, London and heartbreak come flying his way. Co-starring Ralph Fiennes, Sally Hawkins, David Walliams, Robbie Coltrane and Jason Flemyng, this stellar British cast certainly packs a punch.

Although this version looks extremely decadent (reflective of the recent Joe Wright adaptation of ANNA KARENINA), I think I’ll always have a soft spot for the BBC version, as it was the first to truly explain the story and send chills down my spine (the SOUTH PARK attempt doesn’t count…).

GREAT EXPECTATIONS is set for a UK release from 30th November 2012.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
