Dreamworks To Bring ‘Shadow & Bone’ To The Big-Screen!

Dreamworks Studios have today confirmed that they have picked up the rights to adapt Leigh Bardugo’s acclaimed fantasy novel SHADOW & BONE. The plot centres on a young women named Alina, who must learn to control recently discovered supernatural powers in order to save her country from the creature-festering darkness of the Shadow Fold that is threatening to overrun the world. The story is the first part of a trilogy entitled the ‘Grisha Trilogy’, with follow-up novel Siege & Storm set to be published early next year, and the as-yet-untitled conclusion expected a year later.

Dreamworks’ President Holly Bario announced:

At DreamWorks, we are always looking for great stories, and with Leigh’s ‘Shadow and Bone’ we found not just a fantastic story, but one set in a mystical and fascinating world that will translate well to the big screen. We are excited to begin adapting this book and look forward to working with David Heyman who has unparalleled proven success in this genre.

HARRY POTTER producer Heyman added:

Shadow and Bone’ is a riveting and wholly original adventure set in a breathtakingly imaginative world. I am thrilled to be working with the DreamWorks team and incredibly grateful to Leigh Bardugo for giving us the opportunity to bring her work to the screen.

This is obviously a long way off, so news as and when it circulates!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
