David Slade Is ‘Matched’ With Disney

30 DAYS OF NIGHT and HARD CANDY director David Slade is currently in negations to helm an adaptation of the first in (another) trilogy of best-selling novels with MATCHED by author Ally Condie. With the likes of TWILIGHT, THE HUNGER GAMES and forthcoming BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, there’s something stirring that seems to be making young adult novels a genre of their own, add to that phenomenal box-office and you can see why the studios are picking these up, even if they’re not exactly mind-blowing cinema.

With that, Disney have picked up the rights to MATCHED with an eye on Slade to direct. Logically, this makes sense because he did helm arguably the best effort in the TWILIGHT franchise with ECLIPSE (but in all honesty, was still shit). I suppose if you give a monkey shit, he’s just gonna smear it on the wall, right? Slade just happened to vaguely make it look a flower. A foul-smelling flower at least but I digress into personal opinion…

For those not in the know, MATCHED is set in a dystopian future (shock!), where your right to choice is taken away and are then paired off with another human to live the rest of their life, despite their feelings for others (kinda like Elton John forced to move in with Shirley from EASTENDERS, only to give longing looks at David Furnish from across the square). Anyway, if that sounds up your street and not at all familiar, good luck! More news as and when we have it…

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
