Certainly one of our favourites of this summers blockbusters (was there really any doubt?), THE DARK KNIGHT RISES was an epic (if ultimately flawed) conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s Batman mythos. Running at 165 minutes, there was more than enough thrills to fill any Bat-fanatic with giddy delight, especially when you put the film next to Nolan’s previous two masterpieces.
Now we could be on the cusp of something very special as there are murmurs that Nolan is putting together a directors cut for the DVD/Blu-ray release, that is said to add up to 30 extra minutes! While he’s always been a filmmaker who puts his finished product onscreen in its entirety, perhaps with this being Nolan’s goodbye to our legendary superhero, he wants to give us fans his own unique ‘thank you’!
This is just pure speculation at the moment, however it has been confirmed more scenes (including Liam Neeson’s Ra’s Al Ghul and Tom Hardy’s brutal Bane) were shot, yet we’re not included in the theatrical cut. Time to get excited… I know what I want for Christmas!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
