‘Argo’ Gets First TV Spot & Rave Reviews From Telluride Film Festival

Ben Affleck’s third film as director, ARGO, has a new TV spot. The film sees a tactical effort to extract American civilians from Iran under the guise of a fake movie. The film is based on a fascinating true story and judging by the word of mouth coming out of the Telluride Film Festival, where it recently screened, ARGO is already getting some Oscar buzz and fantastic reviews. Here are some of the first thoughts via Twitter:

  • Dave Karger ?@davekarger Yes, ARGO is fantastic. I could see nominations for picture, director, screenplay, and supporting actor for Alan Arkin.
  • Anne Thompson ?@akstanwyck Telluride Review: Ben Affleck’s ARGO Is True Hostage Thriller, Hollywood Parody, and Likely Oscar Contender
  • Eric D. Snider ?@EricDSnider ARGO: terrific, smart, grown-up entertainment. Affleck is a real live director. Top 10 of the year so far for me. #telluride
  • Peter Sciretta ?@slashfilm ARGO is a near-brilliant nail-biting thriller. Fantastic performances/prod design. Ben Affleck’a smartest film yet as director.
  • Kristopher Tapley ?@kristapley Applause in the middle of the movie. Hearing nothing but “wow” and “outstanding” outside the theater. A big hit. #argo

That’s some amazing praise. This has been at the top of my To Watch List for quite some time, and I’m so happy to hear that Affleck is going from strength to strength. Here’s the latest TV Spot to get you all excited.

ARGO is released 9th November 2012 in the UK. It stars Ben Affleck, John Goodman, Bryan Cranston, Clea DuVall, Alan Arkin and Kyle Chandler.
