Spike Jonze’s followup to WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE is reportedly going to be titled simply HER. It will see Joaquin Phoenix fall in love with a Siri-like operations system on his computer. The official synopsis was posted on HER’s production company’s website, Annapurna Pictures:
In the not so distant future, Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a lonely writer purchases a newly developed operating system designed to meet the user’s every needs. To Theodore’s surprise, a romantic relationship develops between him and his operating system. This unconventional love story blends science fiction and romance in a sweet tale that explores the nature of love and the ways that technology isolates and connects us all.
I seem to remember this being an episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY, but needless to say I think Jonze will take it in an entirely new and bizarre direction. I like the idea of weird love stories as they always manage to be sweet and quirky. One of my favourites was LARS AND THE REAL GIRL (2007).
HER is yet to receive a release date. It will also star Amy Adams, Olivia Wilde, Rooney Mara and Samantha Morton.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
