It’s RoboCop Vs Batman As Keaton Joins Up For Detroit Duty!

Not one for signing up for any old shite (JACK FROST excluded), perhaps things could be looking up for Jose Padilha’s ROBOCOP remake as the great Michael Keaton has replaced the villain role Raymond Sellars, recently vacated by Hugh Laurie. The project has been been in the spotlight recently, and unfortunately not for the right reasons. The script has been laughed at for the significant changes made to the original Paul Verhoeven futuristic classic. Also, reportedly director Padilha has slammed the studio for making his decisions ‘hell’, leading to major problems before the cameras have even rolled.

The good news is that a strong cast is confirmed to be in place with Joel Kinnaman due to don the iconic body suit, that will get a number of upgrades over the course on the movie. Not forgetting the likes of Gary Oldman, Jennifer Ehle, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish, Michael Kenneth Williams, Jackie Earl Haley, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Samuel L. Jackson and now Keaton. All terrific talent that can only aid Padilha in making a hopefully great retelling of a firm favourite.

The director commented:

Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We’ve got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209’s and I can’t wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets

Shooting on ROBOCOP will commence next month for a release slated 9th August 2013. So what are your thoughts on Keaton’s inclusion? As always, we’d love to know.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
