Yesterday we brought you the final teaser trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s sixth directorial effort and the first since his incredible Oscar-winning character study THERE WILL BE BLOOD. THE MASTER sees Joaquin Phoenix as Freddie Quell, a man looking for some substance in his long-gestating life after returning home from the war. He seems to find what he’s looking for in Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s Lancaster Dodd, a controversial religious figure and his growing group of followers.
Despite the 1950s setting and the rumours that Hoffman’s character is based of Scientology founder L.Ron Hubbard, Anderson wants people to see it more than that, hoping they’ll draw their own conclusions. THE MASTER co-stars Amy Adams, Jesse Plemons and Laura Dern and below we have a gripping clip from the film that opens on 9th November.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
