ABC, an American network owned by Disney have now officially ordered a pilot for a S.H.I.E.L.D TV series that should tie into the Marvel universe. Joss Whedon himself will be co-writing and may possibly direct the pilot episode. Whedon will pen the script with his brother Jed Whedon and his brother’s wife Maurissa Tancharoen. Both of them have worked on shows such as SPARTACUS and Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE and DR HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG BLOG. Joss Whedon may have finally found financial success with THE AVENGERS, but his best work still lies in television with shows such as BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and FIREFLY under his belt.
There is still no word on casting or story. It would be nice to see some of the big names guest star, but they are all in high demand. Perhaps HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER star Cobie Smulders was originally cast with hopes of a TV spin-off. Maybe we’ll get all new agents and all new stories, with Samuel L. Jackson appearing every now and again via video conference. A TV series will ensure that Marvel fever runs all year every year, and will once again put DC and Warner Bros. to shame.
