LIBERTADOR is South America’s largest independent film of all time. Edgar Ramirez will play Simon Bolivar, a Venezuelan military/political leader that helped the the Hispanic Americas gain their independence from Spain. LIBERTADOR is directed by Alberto Arvelo Mendoza and is based on a screenplay from the writer of CHILDREN OF MEN (2006), Timothy J. Sexton.
Having no previous knowledge of Simon Bolivar means I am instantly interested in this film. Even though films are often unreliable in terms of historical fact, they open up a gateway into unfamiliar territory. If I find this interesting then I’ll almost certainly pick up a book on the subject.
LIBERTADOR will be released some time next year. It stars Edgar Ramirez, Danny Huston, Maria Valverde, and Iwan Rheon.
