David Fincher is reportedly out of the running to direct CLEOPATRA starring Angelina Jolie. Columbia Pictures are reportedly now considering other candidates to helm the film based on the book ‘Cleopatra: A Life’ by Stacy Schiff which won the Pulitzer Prize. Fincher is still considering what his next project will be after THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO for Sony last year. The sequel THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE is still at script stage and there is no guarantee that the film will actually go ahead.
No offer has been made yet, but word is that Ang Lee will be offered the project and that’s not surprising given the recent LIFE OF PI footage. He could certainly handle an extravagant epic, plus he has 3D experience now, something I’m sure Columbia will be very interested in.
LIFE OF PI is released 21st December.
