Next year’s Pixar prequel MONSTERS UNIVERSITY has had a bit more light shed on it from Billy Crystal. MONSTERS UNIVERSITY will find Sully and Mike at university learning to be scary. They don’t start out as friends and this latest installment will detail how they put their differences behind them.
Billy Crystal told Entertainment Weekly:
[Mike and Sully] end up in the same fraternity where they have this scare competition like Greek Games in college. They have to mobilize a group, sort of like Revenge of the Nerds-monsters, and get them ready to be scary. They’re 17 and 18 years old in the script. My guy has a retainer, even.
Before UP!, MONSTERS INC. was my favourite Pixar film due to its creativeness and humour. I don’t know how I feel about this prequel. It certainly seems unnecessary and the plot isn’t exactly grabbing my attention just yet. They’ve also added two of the most overused comedy actors Ken Jeong and Rob Riggle to the cast list. Hopefully a full length trailer will have more laughs.
MONSTERS UNIVERSITY is released 12th July 2013. It stars John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, Jennifer Tilly and Kelsey Grammer.
