Brolin Looking To Get ‘Crazy For The Storm’ For Penn

The recently announced sixth directorial outing for double Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn will see him helm an adaptation of Norman Ollestad’s best-selling memoir, CRAZY FOR THE STORM. The film will depict the true events of 11 year old Ollestad, who survived a horrific plane crash in 1979 that killed his devoted father, step-mother and pilot, leaving the youngster to fend for himself in the San Gabriel Mountains, suspended at 8,200 feet…in a blizzard. The survival sports and psychological skills taught by his now-dead father are what saved Ollestad from a long, lingering death.

It appears Josh Brolin is set to take the pivotal role of Ollestad’s pushy-but-protective parent, who meets his demise in the devastating disaster. No word on who will play the lucky/unlucky teen (depending on how you look at it). Penn is currently prepping work on his fifth effort behind the camera with the De Niro-led comedy THE COMEDIAN. Brolin meanwhile has upcoming roles in Jason Reitman’s LABOR DAY and Spike Lee’s OLD BOY remake. Both Penn and Brolin feature in Ruben Fleischer’s mob-thriller GANGSTER SQUAD, which is to be released early next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
