Samuel L. Jackson Joins ‘Oldboy’ Remake & Bruce Hornsby Composes

Some exciting developments in terms of Spike Lee’s remake of the Korean classic OLDBOY. OLDBOY is the story of a man kept captive for 15 years for no apparent reason. Upon his release the man behind his imprisonment gives him just 5 days to discover why he had him incarcerated. If he does so then his captor will kill himself. Samuel L. Jackson is joining the project in a small role as Josh Brolin’s former warden who will be tortured by Brolin in order to gain some information. Jackson joins the rest of the cast including Sharlto Copley as the mysterious villain behind Brolin’s imprisonment and Elizabeth Olsen as a young lady helping Brolin find some answers. Bruce Hornsby has also joined the production as composer.

If you have never seen the original OLDBOY then you really need to before it gets spoiled for you. It’s a masterclass in cinema and this remake has a lot to live up to. I’m going to wait to see some footage before I completely hate on this film. Spike Lee, though not my favourite film maker, certainly has his own style and all I ask from my remakes is that they offer at least something new. Whether they change the personalities of the characters, spice up the dialogue, or just go with the basic premise and deviate from it is all fine by me, just don’t me a film I’ve already seen.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
