Finally, the Czech stop-motion animation TOYS IN THE ATTIC is getting a US release and we have the first dubbed trailer featuring the voices of Forest Whitaker, Cary Elwes, and Joan Cusack. It’s about time considering this was released back in 2009 as IN THE ATTIC: WHO HAS A BIRTHDAY TODAY? The film sees a group of forgotten toys develop their own community in the attic, and everyday they role a dice and decide one of them shall have a birthday. Unfortunately their world is next to The Land Of Evil, headed up by a large bust that rules over this land. He has designs on the doll Buttercup and decides to kidnap her.
Having already seen this I can attest to its wonderful animation, lovable characters, and unique visuals. I’ll certainly give this dub a chance but Joan Cusack already ruined the TOY STORY films for me. It’s a shame it takes so long for animated foreign films to be acquired/released by American distributors, it just means that those of us that are interested in them are importing them long before their release. I remember the mess that was Miramax and PRINCESS MONONOKE.
TOYS IN THE ATTIC is released in the US in its dubbed form 7th September 2012. No word yet on a UK release. It stars Forest Whitaker, Joan Cusack, Cary Elwes, and Vivian Schilling.
And here’s the Czech trailer.
