Saoirse Ronan To Be Crowned ‘Mary Queen Of Scots’

The great thing about writing is that I don’t have to concern myself with the pronunciation of Saoirse Ronan’s name. I can use it as much as I like without looking stupid or ignorant. Well, anyway, Saoirse Ronan is all set to take on the lead role in a period drama written by Michael Hirst and produced by Working Title. Saoirse Ronan will play MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS who was crowned queen of Scotland at just 6 days old. She had a fairly tragic life filled with murder and scandal. Mary was 45 at the time of her execution so we don’t know yet if the film will concentrate only on her early life or if Saoirse Ronan will be aged via make-up.

Since 2007 Saoirse Ronan has proven herself in a number of challenging roles both physically and mentally. She played a murdered girl in THE LOVELY BONES (2009), and a child assassin in HANNA (2011). Michael Hirst is responsible for penning the likes of ELIZABETH (1998) and the TV series THE TUDORS, so I guess he knows his history.

I think Working Title are missing a really great chance to make a family comedy called Baby Queen! It would have a number of hilarious scenes where a baby just crawls about and says “Ga ga goo goo!” and royal advisors try and interpret what it is she’s saying. “Huh? You want us to tax all men with one leg shorter than the other and invade France so we can lay claim to their Farley’s Rusks? As you wish your majesty.”

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies.
