There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding 3, 2, 1…FRANKIE GO BOOM in the indie world, and finally the first trailer and poster are here. FRANKIE GO BOOM is about 2 brothers, Bruce (Chris O’Ddowd) and Frankie (Charlie Hunnam) and the lack of change in their relationship since their childhood. Frankie has always been the underdog and has had to put up with the torment coming his way from Bruce all his life. Similar to all the candid films Bruce made of Frankie as a child, he now creates a DVD of his brother being intimate with Lassie (Lizzy Kaplan). The film follows their misadventures of trying to retrieve the DVD before it leaks.
It seems like an original enough story to me. I’m surprised by seeing Charlie Hunnam and Chris Noth do a comedy of this type, but from the trailer, it seems like itworks. I think any film who can get HELLBOY, BLADE II, and ALIEN badass legend Ron Perlman dress up as Phyllis instead of Phil is bound to excite people. Hunnam and Perlman have a completely different dynamic and relationship in biker drama SONS OF ANARCHY which is going into it’s 5th season, but they are also set to star in Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM in 2013.
The film is both written and directed by Jordan Roberts. The film premiered at SXSW this year, but details surrounding a UK release are still unknown. We’ll keep you posted, but first check out the trailer for 3, 2, 1…FRANKIE GO BOOM and let us know what you think.
