Stunning First Official Still From Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’

Steven Spielberg’s forthcoming biopic LINCOLN is one of the most anticipated films on the horizon. He’s one of the few directors who packs as much emotional punch into his blockbusters as he does fascinating factual tales. What makes his latest so special is that the always-amazing Daniel Day-Lewis will play the iconic 16th US President, whose legendary life will finally feature faithfully on the big-screen (no vampire hunting here).

Well just the astound you further, we have the first official look at Day-Lewis as the American folk’s bearded hero. For those familiar with Abe Lincoln’s actual weathered appearance in old photographs, it seems uncanny. We caught glimpses of the actor on set months ago, which didn’t quite seem to capture the image I had of Lincoln. However, this new still has me sure Day-Lewis will be the one to beat on Oscar night.

Spielberg’s film, based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s novel ‘Team Of Rivals’, will feature an ensemble cast of the highest quality, with the likes of Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Hal Holbrook, James Spader, John Hawkes, Tim Blake Nelson, David Strathairn, Walton Goggins, Lee Pace, Jackie Earle Haley, David Oyelowo and Jared Harris co-starring. LINCOLN hits UK cinemas 25th January 2013.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
