Keener And Collette Assemble For Holofcener Comedy

Catherine Keener (BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) and Toni Collette (FRIGHT NIGHT) have signed up to appear in Nicole Holofcener’s (PLEASE GIVE) as-yet-untitled film, which has already begun shooting in Los Angeles.

The narrative focuses on a divorced masseuse (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), whose kids are due to leave home, inducing her with a case of the lonesome blues. Her perspective changes when she meets a new friend (Keener), with whom she regains her confidence and vim. She soon begins a relationship with an agreeable male (James Gandolfini), but finds herself in a messy predicament when her friend’s romantic past with him is revealed.

Although the synopsis doesn’t ooze originality, this talented bunch of people have the potential to create something special. Louis-Dreyfus, Collette, Keener, and Holofcener have a diverse sense of humour which is evident in their previous work, the latter two have an established chemistry (Keener has appeared in all of Holofcener’s feature films), and Gandolfini is just a walking, worryingly-wheezy, legend.

The comedy is being produced by Andy Bregman, for Fox Searchlight Pictures, and he described its tone in the following statement:

‘The folks at Fox Searchlight have wanted to work with Nicole for years and she came up with this funny, heartbreaking story about people trying to live with and without each other.  It’s as full of life and truth as plums in a plum pudding.’

Holofcener’s third feature film is due for release in the US 2013.
