While Peter Jackson’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS films divide opinion amongst us here at THN, there is no doubt they are visually-stunning works. The seemingly never-ending trilogy is looked at as pretentious and over indulgent at times, but I’m a firm believer in Jackson and his passion for Tolkien’s tales of trolls, dwarves and sword-swinging wizards, without taking them to geeky levels! I loved his Oscar-winning trilogy yet never read any the books they were based on.
The recent news that his two upcoming HOBBIT films will now be a trio, has come as a thrill to both fans and the studio behind the films. Whether that needed to happen remains to be seen, either way the extra film will have studio heads rubbing their hands. Today we’re able to bring you the latest trailer for the first of these, THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, which finally hits cinemas in December.
The trailer is certainly in keeping with the tone of previous films despite being based a more child-friendly novel. We’ll finally see Bilbo Baggins’ epic adventure through Middle Earth and how the ‘one ring’ encapsulated his life and being.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Looks excellent. I loved the LOTR trilogy and see nothing I won’t love in this, other than those blooding singing dudes.
